Owning a car is an experience like no other. When you own a car, it gives you a sense of freedom as it enables you to travel anywhere, anytime.
However, like every other piece of machinery, a car too needs frequent maintenance for smooth operation. Servicing and properly maintaining your vehicle extends its life and eliminates the risk of sudden breakdowns.
Certain types of cars, such as performance, muscle, off-roaders, or some exceptional brands, require extra maintenance. Some mechanical parts need to be replaced often to keep the car pristine. Service centers especially provide maintenance and repair services for particular car brands.
A well-maintained car offers higher fuel efficiency and has greater resale value when compared with a poorly maintained car.
Here are some common auto parts that need frequent maintenance or replacement.
Quick Navigation
Common Car Parts That Need Replacing
1. Brake Pads
After twenty thousand kilometres, you must replace the brake pads to avoid screeching or overheating. Extended use of brake pads will decrease the vehicle’s braking power. These pads must be replaced every twenty to thirty thousand kilometres to eliminate the risks of brake failure.
2. Filters
There are various types of filters in a car, like air filters, oil filters, and cabin filters, that need to be repaired after a certain mileage. You must regularly check and replace the filters if needed to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and extend the engine’s life.
3. Battery
Car batteries are heavy-duty and very robust. But, with wear and tear, they lose their efficiency, and at a point, the batteries die. Ensure you regularly inspect the car’s battery and replace them before the battery fails even to start your vehicle.
4. Starter
A starter is a mechanical device used to crank the internal combustion to kickstart the engine. A faulty starter can cause problems while starting the car. In high-quality cars, starters last a lifetime, but they can fail prematurely in some lower-end models. Ensure you get your car’s starter checked and replaced if there is any fault to avoid any sudden breakdown.
5. Alternator
An alternator is the generator of your car that produces electricity to run every little electric item in the vehicle. From the music system to headlights, everything is powered by an alternator. They can withstand wear and tear for seventy thousand kilometres, but it mainly depends on the quality of materials used in the vehicle. Moreover, if you have a high-power music system or lights, they may need replacement much earlier.
6. Spark Plugs
Spark plugs are essential as they ignite a spark in the air and fuel mixture to start the engine. To kickstart the engine from a standstill, Spark plugs, batteries, and starters work in unison. These plugs are prone to corrosion and need replacement after every fifty thousand kilometers, or the engine will misfire and will not start.
Generally, most carmakers recommend servicing after every ten thousand kilometers. However, if your car has a high running mileage, some carmakers recommend getting a car service after every five thousand kilometers. When you regularly maintain your vehicle, you eliminate the risk of a breakdown and major repairs.
