Mevotech Control Arm Review 2022 [Updated] – Buying Guide and FAQ

Mevotech Control Arm Review

We have been on speed from the day we invented wheels. Later we made vehicles to transport ourselves from place to place. This saved us a good amount of time during travel but took a hit on comfort, especially on rough roads.

This drove men to find a solution for this issue and we developed a system called a suspension. What it does is take the impacts of the bumpy ground and dampens it. Which reduces the lurching and staggering motion of the vehicle body and makes the journey a smoother one.

But as we humans got technologically improved we tried to reinvent and redesign the suspension system to provide the best experience on the wheels. This leads the system to gradually become more complex and intricate. It is no longer a simple one, it is a composite system that consists of some vital parts and the system’s quality and efficiency greatly depend on these parts.

Mevotech in A Nutshell

Mevotech has been in the automotive aftermarket for nearly 40 years. Through this time they had been revolutionizing this industry. They have been creating top quality, technologically advanced automotive parts since 1982 and provide the best customer service and support in the industry. I am really surprised that I did not know about this company beforehand.

Mevotech has a dedicated program for control arm development named, Mevotech X Factor. This provides the broadest replacement coverage in the aftermarket and under this project, many of their control arms are redesigned to improve their life and durability. Furthermore, this helps to restore the vehicle’s suspension system to the original specification as close as possible.

Moreover, these X Factor control arms are very rugged. To reduce excessive flexing and twisting they are made with thicker forgings and are coupled with upgraded, greaseable X Factor ball joints to improve their durability and reduce wear.

Mevotech manufactures quality control arms, ball joints, bushing and the tie rod ends. To say precisely, their tie rod ends are equal to Moog. Though Moog wheel bearings perform a bit better, Mevotech products are high quality and less expensive compared to Moog. Another remarkable aspect of Mevotech is their after-sale service. Their products are globally available and not ‘O.E dealers only”.

Various Types of Mevotech Control Arm

The control arms are of two functioning types; the supportive type and the guiding type. The supporting type is generally seen in the rotary shaft level, usually called the lower control arm. This one acts as load-bearing support and distributes vehicle body weight to the tire.

Then comes the guiding type, which distributes the wheel forces, like braking, acceleration, and other wheel action requiring force transmission between the body and wheels of the vehicle.

Getting quality parts for your car can be a challenging task. Through many trials and errors, I finally found a manufacturing company that can be trusted with the health of my dear car. This company has been putting innovation and brilliance in their work for decades. The name of the company is Mevotech.

Mevotech makes three basic types of control arms for the suspension system–

Press in: In heavy-duty applications like trucks and vans, press in control arms are commonly used. In the press-in ones, the ball joint is a bit larger than the socket in the control arm. This is for the instance when the ball joint is pressured towards the control arm, the high friction on the socket will hold the ball joint in place tightly.

Operating on these ball joints requires special tools. You cannot manually push the ball joint into the control arm to prevent damage to it. This process requires safety precautions. This is why Mevotech provides control arms already fitted with ball joints and bushing so installation can be a breeze and alignment can be guaranteed.

Bolt-In: These control arms are usually designed for the MacPherson type suspensions. These consist of a stamped strut-type arm. Repairing this type of control arms can be quite tricky and time-consuming. Often results in fit and alignment issues when replacing ball joints. However, many of Mevotech X Factor control arms are quite a full package, so installation is easy and alignment is helped.

Unitized – These are one-piece control arms. What do I mean by one piece? Here the ball joint is crafted in the arm’s housing. As these costs lower than the other ones, the Utilized ones are gaining popularity rather quickly. These are usually made of steel.

Moreover, as these are complete units, if the ball joint needs to be replaced the whole control arm must be changed. This is where their lower cost comes handy. This tech was first introduced by Mevotech on European applications but later it gained much popularity and got adopted by nearly all O.E manufacturers.

Technology

Mevotech Control Arm reviews

Metal design of internal components – In the manufacture of the Mevotech X factor control arms the internal metal designs are widely used. High durability upper and lower metal bearings are the key features of this tech. Those bearings surround the ball joint, both the stud and the ball.

Their design incorporates grease fittings. This allows injecting grease and lubricant in the central area which in term contributes to the prolonged life of the control arm. And the long life of our control is what we desire.

Greaseable – You know having old grease clogged in the joints hurts the performance of the system. As a part of the inspection and maintenance routine, those need to be flushed and clean, and new grease needs to be injected in. The Greasable control arms enable one to do this procedure as a servicing step.

Black oxide coating – Metals are prone to oxidation and thus to corrosion. So, to protect the parts from facing this type of damage the logical procedure is to have those coated with a protective oxide.

Mevotech does this with their Black Oxide coating which is highly corrosion resistive and provides protection from adverse road, road debris, and weather conditions. Using this protective tech Mevotech ensures the long life of the control arms.

How To Install Mevotech Control Arm

Why Buy Mevotech Control Arm?

Mevotech Control Arm Reviews

These control arms are designed to withstand any kind of driving; be it on the level roads or tough and rugged terrains. Where many companies are using rubber-based compounds for the bushings for their control arms, Mevotech went above the league and is using bushings made of polyurethane, which is far more durable than the rubbers. It is resistant to corrosion and degradation caused by mud, oil, and road salt.

The ball joint the control arm is supplied with is a premium, high-quality one. The strong polyurethane bushings suit different kinds of vehicles and driving. This control arm is one of the greaseable ones. Meaning, this has an easy way to grease the ball joint for enhanced operation.

Mevotech is always improving their craft to improve the durability and performance of their parts. This mindset is clearly reflected in the build of their control arm. Furthermore, their control arm improves the lifespan of the wheel frames. Installing their control arms really restores the vehicle’s suspension close to the original specification.

All the above points do show how Mevotech does not only boast about their techs and throw jargon to the customers, all their claims are legit. They are truly revolutionizing this industry while keeping their high-quality products quite in the range of the pocket of the end-users. Yes, though they are negligible there are a few catches. These catches are what we have to bear as one cannot get all the blessings.

Why Does Control Arm Quality Matter?

A low-quality control arm means it takes less time to transform in a “Bad” control arm. A bad control arm means the ball joint went bad or the control arm bushing got worn out. When this happens you’ll experience some symptoms like clunking noise following a bump, braking or hard turn, steering wander; pulling to left or right without input from the steering wheel, uneven tire wear, excessive vibration mostly in the steering wheel.

When these happen the only option is to replace the faulty/bad part. And replacing control arms is quite if you need replacing now and then. I walked the road, I know.

Needing troubleshooting my car frequently made me wonder what was going wrong. I started my research and reached the conclusion that the generic replacement parts that we use are of no good. Though they seem cheap, in the long run, you will be wasting more money than what you may have invested in a 1st-grade product. Wise investment can get you real benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mevotech

  1. Where is the Mevotech plant located?

All the products from Mevotech are engineered in Canada. Then they are designed in a factory in North America.

  2. What is the main goal of a control arm?

The main goal of a control arm is to attach the suspension members to the chassis. They also manage the motion of the wheel. So the body of your vehicle is synchronized.

  3. Is driving with a broken control arm secure?

When the strut of the car is broken, it will be uncomfortable to drive either for you, or your passengers. Furthermore, it is not secure because it may damage some parts of your vehicle.

  4. Is there a lifetime warranty by Mevotech?

Yes, there is a warranty on suspension parts.

  5. Can I replace a control arm on my own?

It depends on your experience. If you are relatively new to car repair, getting a control arm replacement is a rather delicate process. Furthermore, getting under the structure of your car is not easy.

  6. How do I inspect the control arm?

Same as various other components in the suspension of your car, you have to lift  the entire vehicle on a hoist. Thus, it becomes easy to examine the movement of the control arm in relation to the independent movement of the wheel.

You must remember that a fast lube shop won’t necessarily provide adequate information required to get the wheel replaced.

Some Concluding Words for Mevotech Control Arm Review

Mevotech products are of high quality and comparatively less expensive if compared with one of its rivals, Moog. Furthermore, the Mevotech control arm comes as a complete package. Meaning, control arm coming with bushings and ball joints. But the Moog one does not come with bushings. They wish to cut your pocket a bit more.

Evidently, Mevotech keeps its customers in mind while designing their products. Or else, how would we have gotten such thoughtful products in our hands. And for all these, they do not claim extra money. Even their premium products are quite affordable. Making Mevotech’s control arms great value products.

So, after all, I wish to tell you that you cannot go wrong with Mevotech’s products. I am really satisfied with their products and service. I would recommend Mevotech when it comes to automotive parts.
